OACB Conference Spotlights Change

Managing change was the focus of last week’s Ohio Association of County Boards Serving People with Developmental Disabilities (OACB) Annual Conference. Dozens of informative sessions were attended by more than 1000 people during three days, and focused on ways to continue to improve services for individuals and families in their communities, within an environment of system transition and change.

At one session, DODD Director John Martin highlighted several points in a presentation describing the draft benchmark recommendations which are being reviewed as guidance for a two-year and ten-year plan for the statewide DD service system.  He addressed comments and questions from session attendees and noted that one of the over-arching goals for the long-term plans will be that,

… Services will be person-centered, not waiver-centered. We need to not lose the person in the process.”

In addition to Director Martin, several other DODD staff led sessions on timely subjects, including Deputy Director Lori Horvath — Medicaid Updates including the CMS Transition Plan and Transitions DD Waiver; Assistant Deputy Director Teresa Kobelt — DODD Initiatives and Projects to Support People Across Systems; and, Employment First Project Manager Kristen Helling — Funding System Redesign for Day and Employment Services.

DODD salutes OACB for the comprehensive and well-planned conference designed to help move the system forward by keeping DD professionals better informed and prepared to manage change. Preparing the people who drive the system to anticipate transformational changes in the future will help to build resiliency into the system.
