Reminder:  People First, Revival of Advocacy in Ohio, August 16

Revival of Advocacy in Ohio, an event sponsored by the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council (DD Council) and Smart Grant, will be hosted by People First of Ohio on Saturday, August 16, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Hunters Lake, 10881 Fosdyke Rd./ County Line Rd., in Mount Vernon. Learn more about programs and initiatives around the state and nation that can benefit you as a self advocate, related family member, or caregiver. Funding System Redesign:  Remaining Regional Community Forums, August 12 & 13

DODD has contracted with HIGH IMPACT Mission-based Consulting to develop recommendations for a funding system redesign that supports an increase in integrated employment. You are encouraged to attend a regional forum at the time and location most convenient for you.  Two identical sessions will be held at each site from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and registration is free. A complete list of forums and registration information is available online. A set of Key Principles for Employment First will be discussed, and there will be opportunities to learn about at least two funding redesign proposals.

Annual OADSP Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Event, September 10

The Annual 2014 DSP Recognition Event, September 10 at the Xenos conference center in Columbus, will feature great speakers, and original films about direct support professionals. This is an opportunity for Ohio DSPs to tell their stories, and show how they provide support and care for the people they serve. DSPs are encouraged to show that they are role models and are an important part of the lives of thousands of people with developmental disabilities across the state.  The annual event is sponsored by the Ohio Alliance of Direct Support Professionals (OADSP).  Find out more and register for this exciting event at the event website.

Third Annual FUSE Conference, September 12-13

The third Annual FUSE Conference will be hosted September 12 and 13 at Grace Polaris Church, 8225 Worthington-Galena Road, in Westerville, and is sponsored by Joni & Friends.  Attendees will explore a Christian perspective on social action and church advocacy, among other topics.
