People First, Revival of Advocacy in Ohio, August 16
Revival of Advocacy in Ohio, an event sponsored by the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council (DD Council) and Smart Grant, will be hosted by People First of Ohio on Saturday, August 16, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Hunters Lake, 10881 Fosdyke Rd./ County Line Rd., in Mount Vernon. Funding System Redesign – Regional Community Forums, July & August
DODD has contracted with HIGH IMPACT Mission-based Consulting to develop recommendations for a funding system redesign that supports an increase in integrated employment. You are encouraged to attend a regional forum at the time and location most convenient for you. Two identical sessions will be held at each site from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., and registration is free. A complete list of forums and registration information is available online, here. A set of Key Principles for Employment First will be reviewed and discussed. There also will be opportunities to learn about at least two funding redesign proposals.
Third Annual FUSE Conference, September 12-13
The third Annual FUSE Conference will be hosted September 12 and 13 at Grace Polaris Church, 8225 Worthington-Galena Road, in Westerville, and is sponsored by Joni & Friends. Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities Annual Awards
Entries must be postmarked, sent electronically, or faxed by July 31
The Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities (GCPD) annually recognizes businesses, groups, and individuals who have significantly contributed to employment opportunities and community involvement for people with disabilities. It is anticipated that their example will inspire others in the public and private sectors to realize that ability is the most important factor in employment and community inclusion. GCPD awards nomination categories are online at www.gcpd.ohio.gov. Use the Awards dropdown box to nominate a community leader, organization, or business for the appropriate recognition. The 2014 awards will be presented on October 16, in the Atrium at the Ohio Statehouse.
Reminder: Project STIR Training, August 18-21
The Franklin County Board of DD will sponsor a Project STIR (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility) ‘Train the Trainer’ training August 18-21 at the Holiday Inn, Worthington. The FCBDD Self Advocate Advisory Council currently is finalizing details for this event, which will be coordinated by the Ohio Self Determination Association (OSDA).

To report abuse/neglect and other MUIs, call toll-free: 866-313-6733. Please note that MUIs are to be reported to the local County Board of DD, however, it is understood that there may be times an individual, staff member, or family member may feel it is a conflict — or that, potentially, a County Board may be involved in the allegation. In those instances it is important to remember the hotline number is there to be used for reporting concerns.
